Self Help Online Part 2

In my first post regarding self help online, you have already read a first hand experience regarding how the correct utilization of the internet can be beneficial to assisting any issues with mental health. With the ability to instantaneously access an endless amount of information, the power of the internet can assist you in almost any predicament you may find yourself in.

When I began noticing new struggles and issues in relation to my current (and outdated) diagnosis, I turned to the world wide web to read up on different mental illnesses. I started with depression and anxiety, ones I already felt I was familiar with, and moved forward to research some more. During this research, I discovered Bipolar Disorder, which shattered all of the incorrect preconceived notions I had about the illness.

Additionally, there is a large community of those online who struggle with any and all of the same issues you may face. These communities provide a support system as well as tips, advice and just an overall sense of understanding that you might not find in your tangible community. The anonymity of talking to others online can also serve as a comfort and invitation for honesty to some.

To this day, I still find myself researching additional coping tactics for my more challenging stretches in my battle with mental illness. I have found exercises, practices, natural herbal remedies and advice posted throughout the depths of information online.

It is important that you seek the help and assistance of a licensed professional, and do not rely solely on the internet to diagnose yourself.
